Through a process of claims review, onsite assessments and system practice review, our risk services consultants provide insight on how to make improvements that are intended to reduce unwanted outcomes. And while we know that risk cannot be completely eliminated, it is well-recognized that the implementation of sound risk management practices has proven very successful in protecting your interests should an adverse event occur.

Tom Snyder Vice President of Healthcare Risk Services

Tom came to Princeton Insurance in 2005 and brings with him many years of both healthcare insurance and clinical experience. Prior to joining Princeton Insurance, Tom served as Vice President of National Accounts at New York City-based Wellchoice, Inc., where he was employed for five years. Prior to that, he worked as a risk/compliance consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP, Regional Director for Network Development at Oxford Health Plans, Inc. in Philadelphia, and as a Project Manager for the NJ Healthcare Facilities Financing Authority in Trenton.
Tom began his clinical career upon entering the United States Air Force and serving as medical corpsman for four years. After completing his Physician Assistant training at Hahnemann University in 1982, and an Emergency Medicine Residency, he worked as a Physician Assistant until 1990. In 1990, Tom obtained an MBA in Health Administration and an MS in Healthcare Financial Management from Temple University. He also earned a BBA in Finance from Temple University. He is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. |

Phyllis DeCola Manager of Healthcare Risk Services

Phyllis serves as healthcare risk services manager for Princeton Insurance, where she oversees the development and provision of risk management services to physicians, hospitals and other healthcare entities. With over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, her background includes risk management consulting in the medical malpractice insurance forum, director-level positions in the hospital setting in the areas of risk management, quality improvement, utilization management, managed care contracting and discharge planning, as well as third-party reimbursement denial management and clinical nursing. A registered nurse, Phyllis received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science from the University of the State of New York, Regents College, in Albany. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM). |

Cindy Kerben Supervisor of Healthcare Risk Services |

Cindy provides supervision of the data related functions within the Risk Services department. This includes management of claims coding, analysis and report development, and management of the coverage and verification unit. After graduating with a BS in Engineering Technology, Cindy performed varied jobs throughout industry, mainly focused in Commercial Insurance (Safety Engineer, Liability Claims Representative, Data Analyst) or IT-related areas (Database and System Administration, Product Support, Materials Development, System Testing), which provides her with a depth of knowledge in the area of insurance data management. |

Our Healthcare Risk Consultants possess the breadth and depth of knowledge necessary to assist policyholders in navigating the various risks they encounter in their daily practice. All professional liability consultants hold the designation Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or both. Their individual experience is extensive and varied, including hospital, physician practice, the professional liability insurance industry, clinical nursing, mental health and medical and nursing staff development. Our general liability/property consulting staff has thorough knowledge of OSHA/NIOSH requirements, hospital accrediting agency and National Fire Protection Association standards and codes, as well as state-wide building and fire codes. The consulting team uses a data-driven approach for the identification of risk issues in order to provide awareness and education, and to assist policyholders in the implementation of risk mitigation processes.
